S.L. 164.1 Art. 6General probation.

(1) Any member of the Force promoted to a rank not above

Superintendent shall be on probation in the rank to which he is promoted for a period of not less than one year; thereafter he may be on such extended probation as the Commissioner or Permanent Secretary serving in the Ministry responsible for the Police, as the case may be, may direct.

(2) Where any member of the Force other than a constable is confirmed in an appointment after having served a period of extended probation, his appointment shall be deemed to have commenced twelve months prior to the date of confirmation.

(3) If, during the period of probation or extended probation, the President of Malta directs that a member of the Force shall revert to the rank he held immediately before his promotion on probation, the seniority of such member in the Force shall be the seniority he would have held had he not been promoted on probation.
