S.L. 549.125 Art. 4Calculation of 1% of the total annual mortality of the reference population.

The 1% of the total annual mortality of Malta’s reference population of Golden Plover and Song Thrush shall be calculated as follows:

Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria altifrons)

Minimum breeding success 3.64 birds per pair (203,000 x 3.64) = 738,920 st Mortality rate of 1 year birds (738,920 x 53.33%) = 394,066 Mortality rate of adults (406,000 x 33.7%) = 136,822

Total annual mortality (394,066 + 136,822) = 530,888 1% of total annual mortality (530,888 x 1%) = 5,309

Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos)

Minimum breeding success 4 birds per pair (1,365,000 x 4) = 5,460,000 st Mortality rate of 1 year birds (5,460,000 x 56%) = 3,057,600 Mortality rate of adults (2,730,000 x 43.3%) = 1,182,090

Total annual mortality (3,057,600 + 1,182,090) = 4,239,690

1% of total annual mortality (4,239,690 x 1%) = 42,396
