It shall be lawful for the judge or magistrate referred to in article 988 forthwith to sentence to a fine (ammenda or or to multa)

detention in terms of the Criminal Code, any person who, by any indecent word or gesture during the sitting, commits any act of contempt of court, or insults any other person.
