Where the subject-matter of the reference is a valuation or an assessment, it shall be lawful for the court, in either of the cases referred to in the last preceding article, on the demand of any of the parties, to appoint two additional referees; and upon their report, to fix an average of the amounts found in all the disagreeing reports.
