Upon being notified by the Director (Child Protection) that a parent intends to relinquish the care of a minor and give the minor up for adoption, the Directorate of Alternative Care (Children and Youth)

may place the minor in alternative care as a temporary placement, which in the case of a newborn, shall be for a period of not less than eight (8) weeks.
