No more internal examinations shall be made by the midwife than are absolutely necessary, and from the rupture of the membranes till the completion of labour the midwife shall endeavour to keep the parturient woman in a recumbent position. She is to follow carefully the progress of labour and its effects both on the mother and on the foetus.
