S.L. 499.23 Art. 53Revalidation of qualification.

(1) A certificate of competency issued under these regulations shall be valid for a period of five years, unless cancelled or suspended in terms of regulation 52 or any other legislative provisions.

(2) Any certificate of competency issued to a Master or crew member shall remain valid only if the holder has served in the capacity allowed by such certificate for at least a total of twelve months within every consecutive five year term commencing from the date of issue of such certificate; if this requirement is not met, the Authority may require the holder to undergo a practical, written or oral test prior being permitted to be employed on a commercial vessel.
